I had never thought of painting on shoes until I saw an episode of David Tuterra's "My Fair Wedding." He gave the bride a pair of shoes painted like Monet's "Waterlilies." I went to the website (B. Gall Designs) and was absolutely blown away. Every single pair in the 'Impressionists' section were calling out my name! But at over $700 a pair there was no way I could even afford ONE pair. So, I thought I'd try painting on shoes myself! Painting on canvas and walls wasn't bad...surely shoes would be a breeze.
Well, it's a little more involved than I thought. Of course I didn't want to start on a brand new pair of shoes so I "played around" with whatever I could find at Goodwill. I then bought a pair of silk Mary Jane's on Ebay for next to nothing. This was going to be the real test! This pair has remained my favorite.
I remember the first time I wore them...my SHOES stopped traffic! One lady even stopped me and asked if they were from some famous designer's new line! I didn't even recognize the designer's name so you can imagine how much that line fetches per pair! (By the way, this first pair was done with just the inks and markers. The pink sole was created with magenta spray paint.)
Enough said, lets get to how I paint silk or satin shoes.
